Starting ’em Young

How do you take a company that starts out as a small electrical contracting business and grow it into a substantially larger Control Systems Integration company specializing in conveyor handling control systems and other types of industrial automation? There are lots of answers to that question, but one way is crystal clear – you learn and learn some more, and when you’re done learning, you learn some more. It’s a deal-killer at Pendant if you refuse to learn continuously.

There’s a great quote, often misattributed to Dorothy Parker, that says the cure for boredom is curiosity, but there is no cure for curiosity. At Pendant we have a sick ward full of people who need that cure if they ever find one.

So none of us were surprised today when Rob brought in a set of books he bought for his daughter, soon to be a year old.

It seemed funny at first, the idea of a one year old child learning about quantum physics.  What was startling was that a few of us read through some of the books and learned something about physics.

We’re not entirely sure what to make of that. Is it a lesson about the value of making complex ideas simple to understand, or does it say something about us? We don’t think we’re a bunch of babies, but what do we know?

Anyway, the purchase of the books is a great example of a firmly held belief being put into practice.  Don’t be surprised if one day the world’s preeminent physicist works for Pendant Automation.
